Luis Salom rides for the Red Bull KTM Ajo Team in the Moto3 World Championship. After eight races the 22-year old from Mallorca leads the standings by 14 points. So we grabbed a quick word with the impressive Spaniard…
So, how did you get into motorcycle racing?
My parents have a bike shop, so I started quite early with the help of my family. We saw that we could make a go of it and we made a big push. So now I am here in Moto3 with the Ajo Team and lead the world championship!
Why race?
It’s all about enthusiasm and for love of the sport. I never think about money. If I would, I would never be fast.
How does it feel on the bike?
The KTM Moto3 machine is small and really light; you have to be aggressive but exist on a very fine line to be fast. Do I enjoy riding the bike? Yes, very much, every time.
This year you’re with the Ajo team. What’s the difference?
I think I am a better rider this year and the team helps me to do that.
What it’s your aim?
Honestly I do not know. The future is very far. I want to stay calm and enjoy every race.
Ever been to Mattighofen?
Not yet, but I know Pit Beirer. Even without visiting you get the special KTM family feeling. When I finally go there I will feel that even more.
You go off-road riding for training?
Yes, I got KTM 350 recently and I will use it for practice during the summer break for sure.
How about daily road riding? I do not ride on the road. But if I did, I would like to have the KTM 690 because I really like the look of it.
